Brick Futures

Since 2018, I have been advising a series of directed research as MS thesis or as an independent study class. The Brick Futures MS directed research (2018) investigated the potentials of masonry
as a contemporary building material. Each of the 5 students developed unique projects including a transformable masonry wall system, a passive cooling wall using Venturi effect, a phosphorus
brick, and a project using recycled bricks. The transformable masonry wall project developed by Chao Wei, MS’18 was submitted to the Joan B. Calambokidis Innovation in Masonry Competition
and received first prize in the student category.
