Floating Gallery

The design for the Floating Gallery focuses on creating a green gallery that can be delivered to various locations on the Thames River and opens up to generate events. The exhibition spaces are zoned into a single volume and the cafeteria is combined with the observation area. The circulation sequence allows the visitors to flow from the entrance lobby to the observation area experiencing the architecture in the process. A living wall is inserted to vertically connect the lower volume and the upper volume as well as to characterize the circulation zone. The observation area is designed as a public garden and the cafeteria opens out to it. The façade consists of a series of light weight ETFE (Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) bubbles framed with aluminum tube structure that is operable. During the day time, the façade can be opened up and display the art and the green wall to the public and during the night time, light can be projected to the bubbles and the gallery will become a translucent glowing box.
